But why do Morning Routines work?

Starting your day off right can have a major impact on your productivity, mood, and overall well-being. Creating a morning routine (any morning routine) will make a difference, and finding the one that works for you is so important.

Over the years, I’ve refined mine to include 10 tasks that put me in the right mindset for the day. The 10 activities prepare my mind, my body, and my focus to make sure I’m going to get the best from the hours of work which will follow, although truth be told, I also do this on weekends…and on holidays. It just works.

So, here’s my breakdown. If you’d like a handy download with this information so you can tick off the activities as you progress, then download my Morning Routine Checklist here.

Step 1 – Take Deep, Calm Breaths: When you wake up, take a few deep breaths to start your day off on the right foot. Breathing deeply can help reduce stress and anxiety, and increase feelings of calm and relaxation.

Step 2 – Don’t Snooze That Alarm: Hitting the snooze button and falling back asleep can make you feel groggy and unproductive. Instead, try to wake up at the same time every day to establish a consistent routine. Mine is 7.30am, and I use a gradual natural light, but find the time and method which works for you.

Step 3 – Meditate or Have Quiet Time: Spend a few minutes meditating or engaging in quiet reflection. This can help you clear your mind, reduce stress, and set a positive tone for the day ahead.

Step 4 – Do Simple Body Stretches: Even if you’re not into yoga, you can still benefit from some simple body stretches in the morning. Try a few sun salutations, or just stretch your arms, legs, and back to get your blood flowing and loosen up your muscles.

Step 5 – Set Your Intentions for the Day: Before you dive into your to-do list, take a moment to set your intentions for the day. Think about what you want to accomplish, how you want to feel, and what you want to focus on.

Are you ready for the next one…It’s simple…but huge!!

Step 6 – Make Your Bed: This simple task can help you feel more organised and draws a mental line between sleeping time and productive time. Plus, it’s a small accomplishment that can set a positive tone for the rest of your day.

Step 7 – ENJOY a Coffee, Tea, or Morning Drink: Savour your morning drink of choice and use it as a chance to ease into your day. Whether you prefer coffee or tea, taking a few minutes to enjoy a hot drink can be a calming and comforting way to start your day.

Step 8 – Take Your Vitamins: If you take daily vitamins or supplements, make sure to take them in the morning. This will help ensure that you don’t forget to take them later in the day, and it can also help boost your energy levels and overall health.

Step 9 – Write in Your Journal or Do Morning Pages: Spend a few minutes journaling or doing morning pages. This can be a great way to clear your mind, process your thoughts and emotions, and set yourself up for a more focused and productive day.

And Finally,

Step 10 – Review Your To-Do List and Pick Your First Priority: Take a few minutes to review your to-do list and identify your top priority for the day. This will help you stay focused and organised throughout the day, and ensure that you’re making progress on your most important tasks.

Actually, let’s throw one more in…

Bonus Tip: Schedule in Some Fun: Don’t forget to schedule in some fun at some point during the day. Whether it’s meeting up with a friend, taking a walk outside, or indulging in a favourite hobby, having something enjoyable to look forward to can help boost your mood and motivation.

Incorporating these 10 items into your Morning Routine can help you feel more energised, focused, and productive throughout the day. Remember, it’s important to find a routine that works for you and your unique needs and preferences. So experiment with different activities and see what helps you feel your best. With a little bit of planning and intention, you can start your day off on the right foot and make the most of your time and energy. Have a great day!
